Plea to support East Africa emergency appeal

Christian Aid in Norfolk has urged people to support a joint fundraising appeal launched today by leading UK aid charities to help millions of people facing hunger in East Africa.

More than 16 million people in the region do not know where their next meal will come from and children are at risk of dying from starvation. This is the worst humanitarian crisis since 1945.
In South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, drought and conflict have left millions of people in immediate need of food, water and medical treatment.
Julian Bryant, Regional Coordinator for Christian Aid in Norfolk said: “It is so hard to imagine what it is like to live in communities where people are starving and there is simply no food to eat. We must make a difference to this situation. I hope churches and individuals will give. Every pound given will be doubled by the Government for the first £5 million. We must help.”
The DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal is launching today and will be shown on all major UK broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky.
Money raised will support the efforts of DEC member charities to reach affected families and communities.

You can donate to the Christian Aid East Africa Crisis Appeal which is part of the DEC initiative.

Other Christian aid agencies involved in the appeal also include CAFOD, CARE International, Tearfund and World Vision.

The UK Government will match pound for pound the first £5m donated by the public to the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal.
