Sainsbury's helps YMCA Norfolk with food gifts

YMCA Norfolk has launched a partnership with Sainsbury’s, Pound Lane in Thorpe St Andrew, in which staff and customers will donate items of food to be given to the young people and families the YMCA works with across Norfolk.

Store colleagues celebrated the new venture with Darryl Smith, YMCA Norfolk’s Operations Director and Jason Beattie, Business Development Director.

Daryl Smith said: “The food donations will really help young people and young families who, through no fault of their own, can’t afford to buy large amounts of food and exist on small amounts of money.  These donations will go a long way to ensure that people in our city don’t go hungry.”

Linda Andrews PR Ambassador of Sainsbury’s Pound Lane, added: “We welcome our partnership with YMCA Norfolk. Already our kind customers and colleagues have started donating non-perishable foods and toiletries in the collection point here. Our thanks goes to the generosity of people who wish to help others in our local community.”

YMCA Norfolk has been supporting people in Norfolk since 1856. They focus on young people, helping them to play an active role within their community. They work with disadvantaged young people and families who are at a point of crisis in their lives, including those who have been affected by homelessness and support them towards a brighter future.

Every night the YMCA provides a safe home and support for over 260 vulnerable homeless young people across the county, offering opportunities to develop their life skills, education and employability to help prepare them for independent living. They also offer services and support to young people and their families in the wider Norfolk community to enable them to fulfil their potential.
