Upper Sheringham church bells to ring out again soon
The refurbishment of the bells from All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham is progressing well, with news just received that the bells have now been tuned.
It was originally hoped that the bells would be returned before Christmas, but it is now more likely to be early in the new year when the bells make their journey back from the bell works in Dorset to North Norfolk ready to be returned to the tower to be fitted in the new frame so that they can once more ring out over the village.
Sue Morton, from All Saints, said, “Whilst the bells have been away, they have been tuned so we are expecting them to sound amazing. A big thank you to all those who have already donated, we couldn’t have got this far without you.”
To tune bells metal is taken out from the inside of the bell. See the picture above.
Once the bells have been re-installed, they will be rung prior to every Sunday Service at Upper Sheringham and there will also be a “practice night” every Tuesday evening from 7.30pm to 9pm. All will be welcome to come along and have a go.
The appeal is still around £10,000 short of the target. If you would like to donate, or know more, please contact Sue Morton on 01263 826078 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cheques payable to “Upper Sheringham PCC” may be sent to Sue at 4 Linden Grove, Sheringham, NR26 8PD.
