Julian weekend
Julian of Norwich celebrated with weekend of events 

The Julian Weekend, from May 9 – 11 features a festival lecture by Fr Bruce Batstone, a prayer workshop, a history walk and supper and a book launch.

Anchoress Julian of Norwich had her visions on the 8th May 1373.  The Friends of Julian of Norwich mark each anniversary with a number of events which offer an opportunity to step back, and give consideration to the conclusions Julian drew from what she experienced.

Julian Week programme

Thursday 9th May

  • 1 – 5pm ‘Why Pray?’ A Prayer Workshop in St Julian’s Church and at the Julian Centre. All are welcome. Led by Denise Treissman. This will feature Fr Robert Llewelyn’s work and include a launch of his posthumous book, Why Pray? In St Julian’s Church and at the Julian Centre. Afternoon tea will be served at 3pm

Friday 10th May

  • 10.30am Julian Meeting in the Julian Cell, St Julian’s Church. All welcome.
  • 11.00am Morning Coffee in the Julian Centre.
  • 11.30am Talk by Richard Norton: Contemplative Ethics in Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila.
  • 12.30pm Book Signing by Richard Norton of his book, How to See a Vision: Contemplative Ethics in Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila. Also, an opportunity to view other new Julian titles. Drinks and nibbles will be served at
  • 12.30pm. Break till 5pm.
  • 5pm Mass in the Julian Cell for those who would like to attend. (Please be seated by 4:50pm.)
  • 6-8.30pm History walk: Norwich in the time of the Lady Julian. Led by Nick Groves, author of The Medieval Churches of the City of Norwich, followed by supper at Revelation Cafe, Queen Street. Limited to 30 places. £10. Booking essential – see contact details below.

Saturday 11th May

  • 11am Eucharist in St Julian’s Church.
  • 12 noon THE JULIAN LECTURE: Companions in Solitude by Fr Bruce Batstone, CJN, OJN, erstwhile Trustee of the Friends of Julian. One of the first four Companions, received in 2009, Fr Bruce is delighted to be giving the Julian Lecture in this anniversary year. A parish priest in North London, Fr Bruce is a spiritual director himself, and is also involved in the training of directors as a tutor on the London based Ignatian Spirituality Course. He is also oblate of the Order of Julian of Norwich. Fr Bruce’s lecture, Companions in Solitude, will be somewhat autobiographical, looking back at some of the inspiring figures who have lived the solitary life and to whom he looks for inspiration today as he explores what it means to minister from the cave of the heart in companionship with Julian of Norwich.
  • 1pm Lunch. Please bring your own lunch. Drinks, cakes and biscuits will be available in the Julian Centre.
  • 1.50pm Annual General Meeting
  • 2.30pm Future Forum: Chaired by Shirley Buxton. Panel: Canon Andy Bryant, representing the landlord of the Julian Centre; Howard Green, Secretary of the Friends of Julian; Sally-Anne Lomas, Trustee of the Friends of Julian. You will be invited to join in a discussion and ask questions of the Panel.
  • 3.30pm Julian Liturgy
  • 3.50pm Companions Receiving of new Companions and renewal of vows
