Sheringham church moves forward with community shed
2018: The Sheringham Shed project is now fully underway, with Lighthouse Community Church completing the purchase of the building and gaining a grant from a local trust.
The Lighthouse Charity Trust are now the owners of the former St John Ambulance Hall in Wyndham Street, Sheringham, which will become the home of Sheringham Shed.
The Trust recently received news of a grant of £17,000 from the Sheringham Poors and Ploughlets Trust for the installation of a platform lift to make the premises more accessible.
Ian Savory, Chair of the Lighthouse Charity Trust, said, “We were delighted to learn that the Trustees of the Poors and Ploughlets Trust, as a local charity, have so generously supported our Sheringham Shed project. Our purpose has always been to make any facilities we provide as inclusive as possible. This grant will be a great help in doing so.
“We have now started work to carry out essential repairs and then to refurbish the premises. Our aim is to provide a building which is safe, secure and fit for purpose. We can confidently say that, before long, both the inside and outside of the premises will look remarkably different. We hope to be fully operational during the Autumn.
“We are looking forward to providing somewhere men, particularly the lonely and isolated, and those will mental health issues (such as anxiety and depression), can feel welcome and supported.”
