Crafty Christians run Mid Norfolk community event

A group of Christian friends from churches in Norwich and Mid Norfolk have launched a welcoming and engaging monthly morning event providing community, cake and chat for all those who love crafts.

OutoftheBox Cakes 600Out of the Box is a monthly, midweek event that has recently started meeting at the Village Hall of Bawdeswell in Breckland, Mid Norfolk.
With beaming smiles, delicious cakes, attractive tables and endless pots of Mod Podge the morning, which runs from 10am-12.30pm, is run around a shared passion for craft with each month focussed on a different material or theme.

At the February meeting, ‘Picture Perfect’ was the theme.  Those who came brought family photographs and used them to transpose beautifully distressed images onto wood and create money boxes with box frames containing photo montages.

The team is led by Claire Kirkcaldy from Kingdom Life Church in Norwich.  Claire said: “It is all glue and mess.  You can give people an acorn with craft and you end up with a great oak tree.  You can share the good news with a piece of tissue paper, ribbon and a pair of scissors, just by talking and making all things new.  We all love it.”

All who come receive a big welcome and it is a great way to meet new people within the community as you engage in a shared passion.

Claire said: "It is a great community to share in and the Village Hall facilities are built for community events and are great for this
OutoftheBox Wood 600Other members of the Out of the Box team have attended at St Thomas Norwich, Soul Church and One Church -local community churches networking together.  Many within the team previously attended TLC Drayton where they ran a similar outreach called Perfectly Crafted.  With the relocation of One Norwich Elim Church to the Hewitt School in South Norwich the team have moved to Bawdeswell to reach out to other areas of the community, rebranded as Out of the Box.

The theme for the upcoming Out of the Box on Thursday, March 16, 10am-12.30pm is 'Lights Alive'.

All materials are provided and refreshments are available.  Token minimum costs of £5 each apply.  All regulars and new visitors will be given a big welcome including parents with children.
