Norwich church reaching out to their community
Washing cars, holding coffee and craft days and staging free film nights have been bringing hundreds of local people into Mid Norfolk church, TLC, at Drayton Hall.
Exploring their series ‘Knowing, Growing and Going’ has given TLC members the confidence to reach out to their community, and their quarterly “Go days” have been a huge success with over a hundred cars getting washed over the course of this year, facilities opened up for free coffee and craft and family fun day’s.
An outdoor movie night showing the popular film “Frozen” received a big turnout, with several hundred people attending. The 70 bags of sweets for the children went within the first 10 minutes and they lost count of how much ice cream was served!
Sharon Plummer of TLC said “Seeing so many people coming and enjoying themselves, all ages together just spending quality time laughing and relaxing really was an amazing sight, it may be hard work sometimes but the smiles on the children’s faces and the quiet look of appreciation on a parents face as they left just made everything so worthwhile.”
TLC have also launched Perfectly Crafted a monthly craft and coffee morning giving an opportunity for ladies of any age to come for coffee and homemade cakes and try their hand at a simple craft. A crèche is available for only £2. Next one is Thurs Aug 14th 10-1pm.
Sharon continues “When we see people coming in for the first time not knowing what to expect and feeling slightly apprehensive but later on you see them full of smiles and hear words of appreciation about how lovely people were you know it’s been worth all the coffee poured, cars washed and smiles given and a chance for new relationships to be formed.”
