Celebrate Norfolk to hold virtual showcase during 2021

Celebrate Norfolk has announced that this year it will be holding a Virtual Celebrate Norwich & Norfolk showcase, rather than a physical event at The Forum in Norwich in June, due to the Covid-19 public health restrictions.

The charity has also announced that its project director, John Betts, has stepped down from the role after over ten years at the helm and, in the light of this, it will be consulting on its future direction.

Chair of trustees, Keith Morris, said; “I want to pay tribute to John who was one of the main driving forces behind the charity since its launch over ten years ago and was an inspiring director. And to our administrator Jenny Drake, who has also stepped down after many years of loyal service.

“Over the last decade, John and Jenny have played leading roles in helping us hold successful events at the Forum in Norwich with the aim of showcasing the different expressions of the local Christian community and positively communicating its activities, events, vision and unity.

“Last year, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we had to cancel the event because of the social distancing guidelines and our desire to play our small part in tackling the pandemic. We are in a similar position this year and with the uncertainty surrounding the on-going restrictions, our recent staffing changes and our desire to help our community recover faster, we have decided we will not be able to run a physical event,” said Keith.

“However, we do not want to let the idea of Celebrate Norfolk, in bringing the diverse local Christian community together in unity and giving them a platform on which to show what they are doing, fade away at all.

“So I am delighted that this year we will be offering our exhibitors, supporters and others who wish to join us, a virtual online showcase combined with a special edition of the popular Good News for Norwich & Norfolk newspaper, which itself publishes around 14,000 copies for local churches and readers of the Norwich Evening News.

“The online exhibition will run for a whole year, not just one day in June, so exhibitors will also be able to reach a much bigger audience that they might have otherwise.”

The Celebrate team aims to launch the online showcase in May with an accompanying newspaper.
