West Norfolk church looking for a Director of Music
St. Faith’s Gaywood, an Anglican Methodist partnership church with a strong musical tradition is looking for its next Director of Music.
Anglicans and Methodists at
St. Faith's Church, Gaywood, have been sharing the church for worship for more than 50 years and since 1995 it has been an Anglican/Methodist Local Ecumenical Partnership. Bringing the then existing Anglican and Methodist Choirs together in 1974 to form a joint choir was an early priority and since then the Choir has been leading traditional worship Sunday by Sunday singing hymns and occasional anthems.
The current Director of Music is retiring after many years’ service and St Faith’s are seeking someone to join the community and develop the music in the church.
Team Rector at St. Faith’s, Rev Kyla Sørensen said: “We are looking to grow our adult choir, so we are looking for someone who can encourage and enable new and existing members, run the choir, work collaboratively with the Rector and Ministry Team to develop our music offering, in particular the settings for the sung Eucharist on the first Sunday of the month. Our singers are of mixed abilities but with great dedication and commitment to their craft.
“St. Faith’s is a much-loved church in the community and we hold a large number of life events throughout the year. We have a burgeoning youth choir that will meet once a month in church to sing a wide variety of music.
“Music is important to our worship but in various different ways it also forms a big part of our social calendar too – it is an important part of life at St. Faith’s. Other musicians support our outreach programs, playing in regular music concerts and fundraisers.
“This is a part-time role and would ideally suit someone who is perhaps semi-retired with the energy and drive to develop the role, working with our enthusiastic and dedicated people,” said Rev Kyla.
