Yarmouth church provides free hot food for needy

Kingsgate Community Church in Yarmouth has re-started their Hot Food Hub, providing free hot meals for local people in need.

The church is again offering a free hot main course meal, delivered directly to people's homes, on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes. The service is available for individuals, families and households living in need in the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston area, who are unable to access other support available in the community.

kingsgate kitchen 750ATThe Hot Food Hub is primarily a time limited service - ranging from 4 to 12 weeks, to help people get over a specific issue or difficulty – such as coming out of hospital, illness, additional care needs identified but not yet put in place or those struggling with a period of poor mental health etc.

Kingsgate’s Community Manager Julia Miller says: “We are so pleased to be able to offer this service. The feedback we continue to receive is how much the hot food hub is appreciated by those who receive it and how tasty the meals are that our chef Richard produces! We are able to have doorstep chats when our volunteer drivers deliver the meals, which is sometimes the only human contact people have during the week. Regular phone calls also help to reduce loneliness and isolation.”

Kingsgate also has a new coffee morning that has started on Wednesday mornings and is about to launch a new weekly low cost community lunch starting before the end of January. Free meals are also available for people who are in need in the community. A new craft group will shortly be starting, and in the kitchen garden will get underway when spring is on its way.

The Smile holiday activity club continues to operate in the school holidays for families in need in our local area.
