Brass band bringing Christmas joy to Gorleston church

St. Andrew’s Church in Gorleston will welcome the return of the Norfolk Fellowship Brass of the Salvation Army with their “Joy to the World” concert at 7.30pm on Tuesday December 17.

Conducted by their musical director David Woodrow, the 30-member Fellowship Brass is made up of musicians from all over the county with many years of experience between them. The Christmas concert will include a wide range of familiar seasonal music, including the distinctive Salvation Army arrangements and marches as well as favourite carols. There will also be a short pause for thought from one of band members as part of the evening.
‘We are so pleased to have the band back in Gorleston once more. It is such a special sound at this time of the year’ said Janet Bowden of St. Andrew’s Church who is organising the concert with Tony Mallion of Cliff Park Community Church.
Tony, a former broadcaster with BBC Radio Norfolk, who will host the evening, said, “There’s nothing quite like the sound of the Salvation Army when it comes to celebrating the joy of Christmas! This year we have one of the best around. I’ve had the privilege of working with the Fellowship Band over many years and just love hearing them and the quality and commitment they bring to the music. They really enjoy coming to Gorleston and playing in St. Andrew’s.”
SA brass band 640CFFellowship bands were set up a number of years ago to give older band musicians an opportunity of continuing to play together and share their musical skills. The Norfolk band has a programme of engagements throughout the year and, for four years, helped to create and feature in the Great Yarmouth Festival of Remembrance staged at St. George’s Theatre.
Tickets for the concert are £5 available in advance from the St. Andrew’s Church office (01493 656078) or at the door on the night. All the proceeds will go to the work of the Salvation Army and the Identity Youth Project which provides youth work in partnership with Gorleston Churches.
St. Andrew's Church is on Church Road, Gorleston, NR31 6LR.
