Around 150 events will be taking place throughout June, July and August in eighteen parish churches in the Aylsham area of Norfolk, most of which are free or donation only.

Aylsham 12 towers Guide 2019 5The three-month summer festival is now in its third year, and builds on the success of last two years’ festivals which have seen around 5000 people each year attending events throughout the summer.

The aims of the festival are to give people opportunities to discover more about themselves and their communities, to affirm the rich and diverse heritage and culture of rural Norfolk and to celebrate the relationships and partnerships which support rural communities. It will showcase a varied array of events - ranging from heritage, culture and the arts; to spirituality, community and family fun.

The eighteen churches involved are Aylsham, Badersfield, Blicking, Brampton, Burgh, Buxton, Cawston, Haveringland, Heydon, Lammas, Marsham, Oulton, Little Barningham, Itteringham, Wickmere Oxnead, Aldbourgh & Scottow; and between them they’ve come up with a huge array of activities from concerts to a children’s activity days; from a tours to a mini Beer Festival with Wildcraft Brewery; from bell ringing and a pop-up pub to open gardens.

The festival is organised by the churches that form the Aylsham & District Team Ministry, supported by Broadland District Council, Ivan Fisher Funeral Homes and History Mystery.  Sponsorship from Broadland District council and a Sharing the Good News Grant from the Diocese of Norwich has helped fund the production of a full colour Festival Guide, above, to promote the event.

The 12 Towers Festival is a celebration of our Rural Churches and Communities and show just a glimpse of all the amazing things that happen in our rural communities, day by day, week by week, month by month. Thank you to all the amazing people that make these events possible. The rural church is very much alive and kicking!”

The Rt Revd Jonathan Meyrick, Bishop of Lynn, said "I am thrilled this Festival is happening again.  At its heart is rejoicing together in all that this part of rural Norfolk has to offer through its beauty, its churches and its talented, creative people.  I hope you enjoy and are inspired by all it has to offer."
