Freedom TrainingCFFree safeguarding course open to Norfolk churches

Teachers, governors and front line practitioners are invited to a free CPD training course on April 29, which will teach about behaviours to help identify and understand the issues of those at risk from harm and those who are the risk.

The one-day course on Monday 29 April is offered by Freedom From Abuse and is aimed at people who work with children.

Amongst other topics, the training agenda covers:

  • What is safeguarding & need for reporting?
  • Statistics of abuse and risk factors
  • Who are the abusers?
  • The mind of the abuser and early behaviours
  • What is grooming and how it works?
  • What is consent? what is abuse?
  • Off-line and on-line grooming & why “stranger danger” is relevant once again
  • How do we thrive after childhood abuse?

The keynote speaker is Marilyn Hawes, Chief Executive of Freedom From Abuse

About Marilyn Hawes

As a teacher Marilyn attended many courses on Child Protection and asks why none of them gave information on how to recognise “grooming” to protect children. Her three sons were victims of grooming and abuse by the headteacher who was both Marilyn’s boss for 10 years, and best friend for 17 years therefore she has lived the experience. Marilyn regularly speaks to the media, public, organisations, schools, conferences, parents and children across the UK to break the culture of silence and resistance educating people with correct, relevant and vital information to prevent child sexual abuse and tune into their instincts. Marilyn passionately believes victims need not make their childhood abuse a life sentence – with appropriate therapy and support systems they can thrive – not merely survive!

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
