Unlock your career in 2019 with new Norfolk business
Compass Careers, a new Norfolk-based business founded by two Christians, is offering people the chance to get away for three days to evaluate their career and be inspired and supported to make positive decisions about their future – all in a beautiful location with good food.
Last February in Norwich, over a meal in a Japanese restaurant, friends Lisa-Rose Moller and Zofia Fronek started a conversation that led them to set up a new company. The business, Compass Careers, which launched in November, aims to help people discover a career path in which they can flourish.
It is based around the pair’s life-affirming belief that people should spend their working lives in jobs that match up with their passions, values and skills.
Lisa-Rose explained: "We spend more time at work than anywhere else and it's important that we are doing something that we enjoy and is a good fit with our natural strengths, passions and values. The issue is that many people have never taken the time to discover what these are, actively avoid career planning and end up in a job which they are not suited to. This is terribly sad, as if we are not happy at work it can start to impact every area of our lives, including our mental health, well-being and relationships. How satisfying it will be to help people discover their direction and fulfil their potential."
To help people realise their career potential the upbeat pair offer one-to-one career coaching and run 3-night ‘Discovery Breaks’. In a beautiful location, with good food, participants are led through six sessions of the ‘Discover your Potential’ course enabling them to identify their skills, strengths, interests and values and importantly a career that fits.
The Compass Careers Discovery Break experience combines fun, self-reflection and the time, space and setting to feel refreshed. It is an ideal break for anyone seeking direction in their working life, whether looking for a change of career, feeling stuck or simply wanting affirmation that they are in the right job.
The first ‘Discovery Break’ of 2019 will take place at The Pleasaunce near Overstrand on the North Norfolk coast on March 28-31 and spaces are available at an early-bird rate until February 3. The following ‘Discovery Break’ is planned on Devon’s beautiful ‘English Riviera’ on May 24-27.
The new business clearly fits the skills, passions and experience of its co-founders. Lisa-Rose Moller moved to Norwich in 2009 to work in the Careers Centre at the University of East Anglia. She has two post-graduate diplomas - in ‘Careers Guidance and Development’ and ‘Leadership and Management’ - and experience teaching in Japan and working as a team manager in London.
Zofia Fronek, who moved to Norwich in 2011, is a qualified teacher and has worked in a range of sectors across a number of European countries including in education, business development, events and management. Zofia has a great deal of experience in writing courses and staff training, as well as residential events in her role as Business Development Manager for CCT (Christian Conference Trust) Conference Centres.
Zofia said: “As well as the careers field both of us have a lot of experience in leading groups on trips and holidays and we thought it would be great to take people out of their busy lives, to a beautiful location in the UK and give them some time and space to reflect on their career direction and purpose in life as well as having a chance to relax, explore and connect with others in a similar position.”
Compass Careers is also planning a series of one-day events and workshops across the UK in the summer.
