Doors of Hope EventNorfolk training to equip churches on mental health

The Fountain of Life Church in Ashill is hosting 'Doors of Hope Conference' on November 17 to equip the body of Christ in responding well to issues with mental and emotional ill health.

Leaders, members of churches, pastoral care workers and counsellors working in a Christian setting are all welcome to attend.

Keynote speaker Mick Brooks - Chief Executive of CWR and Waverley Abbey College, will be talking about the theological perspective of why churches should respond to the mental health agenda and how they might offer hope to people who may either already attend church or those who walk through the church doors seeking support.

Revd Stephen Mawditt, Minister at Fountain of Life said, "We hope the day will help reduce stigma around mental health and provide people with skills to respond".

Hannah Waite a PhD student being supervised by Professor John Swinton at the University of Aberdeen will be sharing with us her research into stigma, particularly around bi-polar and schizophrenia.

Other topics being covered will be mental health conditions, children and young people’s mental health and their spirituality. There will be workshops covering the addictions of gambling, drugs, alcohol, sex and pornography, and Resilience.

Speakers include:

  • Kathy Spooner - Director of Counselling, Association of Christian Counsellors
  • Sue and Chris Monckton-Rickett - Wholeness in God’s Son
  • Irene Davies - formerly Counselling Programme Director, London School of Theology

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.
