Epic hymnathon continues at Norwich church

On October 6 members of the choir and supporters at Christ Church, Eaton are planning to finish a hymnathon challenge that started in July when they managed to sing an incredible 400 hymns in one sitting.

To celebrate Norfolk Day and to raise money for the new hymn book, “Hymns Ancient and Modern” Christ Church, Eaton, held a marathon sing on Friday July 27.  On one of the hottest days of the year the choir, and supporters sang a verse from 400 different hymns from the current church hymn book, starting at 4pm and ending at 10pm, with a performance of “Jerusalem” at the end.

But with 180 hymns to go to complete the book, they vowed to stage another hymnathon in the autumn. So on the morning of Saturday, October 6 from 9.30am the church will hold a shorter hymnathon finale in order to complete the hymn challenge.

Rosalind Wright of Christ Church, Eaton said: “It is hoped that the temperature will be more comfortable this time! All are welcome to visit, sing and/or support financially.”

Refreshments will be available.
