Community invited to opening of synagogue in Norwich
The grand opening of a new synagogue in Norwich for a Messianic Jewish congregation will be held on May 6, with a special concert in the afternoon by world-renowned worship leader Elihana Elia.
Adat Yeshua Messianic Synagogue is located on Essex Street in Norwich. The congregation has been in the city for around 25 years, meeting in rented rooms and buildings. The growing congregation began to look for permanent premises to enable them to reach out to people – whether they were born Jewish or from other nations. The new synagogue on Essex Street provides this growing ministry with new opportunities to serve the local community, with hopes in the future to be able to offer a Foodbank and support work for refugees and those breaking dependency habits.
Rabbi Binyamin Sheldrake, Leader of Adat Yeshua, said, “This has been a huge step forward for us as a community, a Jewish community of faith.”
Adat Yeshua belongs to the Union of British Messianic Synagogues and its affiliated branch, the Union of European Messianic Synagogues. This movement, started in the 1960s, has matured into a viable and credible voice for the Jewish people and nation, developing authentic Jewish, biblical practices and lifestyles completely framed by the voice of One who alone can redeem and atone for us, Yeshua, the Mashiach (Messiah) of Israel.
The Rabbi said, “His teachings, thoroughly Jewish in nature, shape and form give a message of hope to all who would call on the name of the Lord, and an invitation to all to drink deep of the waters of Life. Messianic Judaism is a form of Judaism that connects with long standing ideas of Jewish Universalism, that the Good News given to us is not only for us, but for all, as Israel truly becomes in Messiah a Light to the Nations.”
The Grand Opening celebration will be held on the weekend of May 5 - 6.
Jewish singer Elihana is leading a special worship session at the Shabbat service at 10.30am on Saturday May 5.
The official opening service will be on Sunday May 6 at 2pm, which will include the ceremonial carrying into the Sanctuary of the Torah scroll, words of welcome and inauguration brought by the Rabbis. The service is planned to end by about 3pm at the latest. An informal buffet of finger food (kosher) will follow the service.
From 5 – 6.30pm Elihana will perfom a concert to finish off the celebratory weekend. There will be a love offering taken at the concert for Elihana’s ministry.
A warm welcome is extended to the community. Seating is limited, so if you would like to attend, whether for the Saturday Shabbat service or the events on the Sunday please email email@example.com to secure a seat.
