Festive ‘open house’ to support Revelation Bookshop

A Norwich Christian couple with a love for good Christian books are holding an ‘open house’ pre-Christmas event at their Cringleford home  in support of the city’s Revelation Resource Centre, located in the beautiful medieval church of St Michael-at-Plea. Mike Wiltshire reports.

The Revelation Bookshop is such an asset in our region,” says Margaret Smith, pictured here, who with her husband Dr Chris Smith will add their support for Revelation by opening up their home at 35 Cantley Lane, Cringleford, on Tuesday, November 14, for their ‘Ready for Christmas’ day, offering coffee and cake, cream teas and a chance to buy tasty Christmas gifts from 10am to 4pm.

“It’s a chance to relax before the busy-ness of Christmas itself,” says Margaret. “Everyone is welcome  - and if friends could bring an unwanted gift to sell, that would be brilliant!  Even better, give it to me at before the event which will offer cakes, jams, cards and a variety of gifts.”

Margaret Smith is well-known in the Norwich area as the gifted musician and choir director of the Cringleford Singers which began 45 years ago with just ten women. Today, the 40-strong choir presents 25 informal concerts a year, singing everything ‘hummable’ from classical jazz and folk songs to showtime numbers from the musicals, raising more than £45,000 for various Christian groups and charities in Norwich.  Margaret is also music director at St Andrew’s, Eaton.

Married in 1967, Margaret and her husband Dr Chris Smith first met as teenagers in a large Bible class of 100 young people at Christ Church, New Malden, in south-west London. It was at this Bible class that Margaret and Chris became Christians.

Asked about her tireless motivation for service to others, Margaret says: “I just want people to know the reality of the love of Jesus – no matter who you are, or the problems you face, he can transform your life.”

Admission to the ‘Ready for Christmas’ event on Tuesday, November 14 is £1.50, which includes morning coffee and cake or afternoon cream tea. To contact Margaret Smith, call 01603 453010.
