Norwich funeral director aids Christmas appeal
The Salvation Army across Norfolk and BBC Radio Norfolk are once again running their annual Toys and Tins appeal, with the help of a local funeral director…..
Kevin Cobbold Funeral Services are a drop off point and welcome gifts of non-perishable foods and a little something nice for Christmas such as chocolates, shortbread and Christmas puddings, as well as toys. They are at 104-106 Sprowston Road, Norwich, NR3 4QW. A map is on their website www.cobboldfunerals.co.uk
Kevin said, “as a lifelong Salvationist, I have been brought up with the way that the Salvation Army responds to need in a very practical way. When it comes to November and December, the Toys and Tins appeal is in full swing. As a result of this, gifts of food and toys are distributed to families and individuals in need. The scheme is supported through fund raising events; personal donations; gift services held by churches; projects within schools and offices and direct appeal to the public during the Christmas period.”
Toys and Tins started within the city of Norwich 30 years ago but has over time extended throughout the county of Norfolk. The appeal is launched by BBC Radio Norfolk in late November and runs until Christmas. During that period gifts of toys, tins and donations are collected in the ‘sleigh’ at the Forum, Salvation Army Corps and charity shops, some branches of Roys, QD and a selection of supermarkets and local shops, in addition to many other places including participating schools and churches.
People can also help by organising a local fund raising event or encourage their church or school to have a ‘gift service’ or fundraiser. People can also help collecting and packing at the Norwich warehouse or at local Salvation Army halls from early December, please contact Catharine or Heather for a chat: 01603 724403.
