Norfolk driving instructor has church connections

ClaudiaParsonageCar450Norfolk driving instructor Claudia Parsonage not only has an ecclesiastical surname but she is also married to a local church minister.

Based in her rectory home in the South Norfolk village of Poringland, Swiss-born Claudia has been an Approved Driving Instructor for the last 17 years and for the last nine has run her own business called Claudia’s.

Claudia first met future husband Robert while they were both working in Bern in Switzerland, and they got married there before moving to Bristol where Robert trained to become a minister.

Looking for a flexible part-time occupation, Claudia trained and qualified under the Driving Standards Agency in Stoke on Trent where Robert had his first church ministry post.

“I really enjoy teaching other people to drive,” said Claudia, “because driving is such an important skill. It is great to see my students increase in confidence and gradually improve enough to pass the driving test. It is really nice watching and helping them progress.”

ClaudiaParsonage450Claudia teaches pupils in her bright red Vauxhall Corsa, which many of them enjoy driving so much that they eventually end up buying one.

“I will pick them up from their home or school,” she said, “and I try to make sure that the lessons are relaxed and enjoyable and I am a very patient and friendly person.

“We will work through all the skills needed to drive and I use a track record assessment card to monitor progress as we go along. We will visit the driving test centre and practice on routes such as the ones used during the actual driving test. I often also sit in the back seat during a test to help students feel more comfortable and will also help them find the best books to use to revise for the theory test.”

Claudia covers the greater Norwich and South Norfolk area and works all days of the week, but of course, never on Sundays.

“Most of my students are beginners but I also do refresher lessons for experienced drivers to boost their confidence, maybe after they have not driven for a while,” said Claudia.

Claudia charges £25.50 an hour and £230 for a block of ten hours’ tuition.
