Plea to support Norwich church community hub

ThePlace400Norwich Vineyard church has launched a community hub and café with a difference in Thorpe St Andrew and is looking for support to help it secure a community grant to help it get established.

The café’s difference is that as well as a free coffee and a piece of cake visitors will get a listening ear, the opportunity to have a chat and maybe receive a word of prayer or engage with one of the wider variety of community organisations which the venue is offering a home to.
Known as The Place, and based in former shop premises on the corner of Spinney and South Hill Roads, the café aims to provide a place where local people can drop-in to access services or just meet up for a cup of coffee.
Project manager, Mike Hidden said: “We have lots of ideas of what we could do which include coffee mornings for the elderly, parenting, reminiscence, literacy or similar groups, pampering and various other events could be offered. The idea is to build relationship with agencies and individuals who work in the community and to have space available to be used as a One Stop Shop, eg, Citizens Advice, credit union or youth projects.
“The main purpose of The Place is to serve and support the community, providing a safe and friendly environment.
“We have been shortlisted for a £3,000 Lloyds Bank Community Fund grant and our success depends upon enough people registering their support in a public vote. We are up against some strong competition so please support us if you can.”

Vineyard pastor, Geoff Lawton, said: “Part of our dream as a church has long been to provide a place in the community where people can come to be cared for practically and emotionally - a church able to house and resource community projects.
“We have a dream of a generous church that will minister to the poor in any way possible, that is a safe environment for broken, hurting, lonely and discouraged people to come, to be accepted, loved, understood, healed, envisioned, given hope, purpose and meaning for life.”
