Norwich church leads pub carol service

St Andrews Singers at Eagle PuThe Eagle pub on Newmarket Road, Norwich hosted its popular carol service again this year, aided by the Vicar of St Andrew’s Eaton, Phil Rodd and the St Andrew’s Singers.

On the evening of Sunday December 16, the Eagle Public House on Newmarket Road, Norwich hosted its annual carol service, supported by Rev Phil Rodd and the St Andrew’s Singers of St Andrew’s Church Eaton

Nigel Booty, Manager of The Eagle pub, said “We were pleased to welcome back our friends from St Andrew’s and to be supported by regulars and Christmas visitors.  Complimentary mince pies and mulled wine helped to keep everyone in good spirits.”

Vicar of St Andrew's, Rev Phil Rodd, commented: "I thoroughly enjoy this opportunity to bring the Christmas message out of the pulpit and into the pub!  This is what Christmas is about: God coming to where people really are, meeting them in their daily lives.

“Everyone who attends the service joins in – singing with gusto when the carols are playing, thinking a bit in the quiet, prayerful parts.  There is a real sense of community.  That’s what I like about leading these services – that, and the excellent hospitality of The Eagle!”

Director of Music at St Andrew’s, Margaret Smith, added:  “One of the highlights each year is the “We Three Kings” carol, sung by our local “three kings” (some of them did not know before the service how well they could sing!)  I am extremely grateful to my family for their assistance with the music.  We look forward to joining The Eagle again next year.”
