Christians march through streets of Norwich

Witness10WebBy Keith Morris

Over 200 Christians from dozens of Norwich churches marched through the centre of Norwich behind a giant cross on Good Friday.

The annual Walk of Witness on April 6 saw the largest turnout for a number of years of over 220 people, according to organizers, and stretched to over 100 yards as it left Chapelfield Methodist Church with a Police escort. Led by the Bishop of Norwich, the Mayor and the Sheriff, and accompanied by the Norwich Salvation Army Citadel Band, the procession stopped at Millennium Plain outside the Forum for a short service before proceeding through city streets to the Anglican Cathedral for an ecumenical celebration.

Witness9WebTransforming Norwich chairman John Betts, who has helped to organize the event, said: “This occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for the Body of Christ to stand together for the faith we proclaim.

"It is a celebration of and witness to the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross.”

The Cathedral service heard Rev James East, of Norwich Central Baptist Church, preach: “The Easter story is one of tremendous tragedy along with amazing triumph,” said James.

Witness18Web“The transforming power has not waned over 2000 years and has changed millions of lives.”

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.
