Norwich church acknowledged as animal friendly

St Andrew’s has been accredited as an animal friendly church and is hosting a joint fundraising event with the Norfolk Greyhound Rescue this Friday.

St Andrew’s Trowse has been recognised as an Animal Friendly church by the Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals.

The church held its first pet service on Sunday August 25. Several dogs were in attendance along with photos of fish, cats and parrots.

Organiser Sarah Toothill said: “We are a dog friendly church, Dorothy and Frankie are regular furry church attenders, and the service was a fun acknowledgement of our love for all of creation. Cakes were enjoyed afterwards, with pupcakes for the furry congregation.

“Our vicar found a pet service and adapted it to suit us. The congregation enjoyed the service and positive feedback came from several people who didn't bring pets so we hope to make this an annual service.”

This Friday, St Andrew’s will be hosting a joint fundraiser with Norfolk Greyhound Rescue. The evening will include a talk on greyhounds and the history of art by local speaker Mary Alexander.

“One of our doggy congregation is a NGR greyhound. Mary, the speaker, is an international art historian and speaker who lives locally and has had a rescued greyhound in the past. Tickets are limited to ensure everyone can see the presentation,” said Sarah.

The talk will explore at how greyhounds have featured in artworks throughout history. There will be refreshments and a raffle alongside merchandise from Norfolk Greyhound Rescue.
