Church stages election hustings in South Norfolk

Mulbarton St Mary’s is the latest in a growing list of churches across Norfolk to stage General Election hustings with an event in the South Norfolk constituency on Monday June 24.

The Church of England parish, and its Rector Rev Adrian Miller, has convened the hustings to be held at Mulbarton Village Hall, NR14 8AE , near St Mary’s, on Monday June 24 at 7:30pm

Vice-Chairman, Mulbarton PCC, Dr Trevor Hutley, said: “The seven electoral candidates for South Norfolk have been invited, to present their case briefly, and to answer questions from the public. It is expected that the event will also be live-streamed, as our weekly Sunday services are. We now have confirmation of attendance from six of the seven candidates, and still hoping that the Conservative Party will find a representative to fill the seventh seat.”

Baron John Fuller, member of the House of Lords and former leader of South Norfolk Council will now represent the Conservative party at the hustings in the absence of their candidate, the only one not to attend the event.

“Questions to pose to the candidates can be submitted online, or on paper in boxes at the Village Hall or Post Office.  The question priority will be decided by an online ballot.”

A new dedicated website for the hustings and submitted questions has been created at: mulbartonhustings.uk

According to tactical voting website www.getvoting.org South Norfolk is altered in the boundary changes, taking in Wymondham and losing a rural area to Waveney Valley.

Polling firm Survation’s comprehensive MRP poll of the constituency currently (June 18) has Labour on 33.8%, Conservatives on 27.9%, Reform 17.5%, Lib Dem 7.8%, Green 11.8%, other 1.3%.
