The David Goodbourn Lecture 2024

Watch this year’s presentation online: All because of Religion!  religion, violence and the imperative of transfiguration

This year’s David Goobourn lecture, first streamed live on 1 May 2024, focused on an important issue that we face in our world today, namely the rising tide of violence and its association with religion. This has been an issue that has been with us for some time and has been posed by appalling acts of terrorism and nationalisms that draw inspiration from religious identity.

In the lecture Dr Clare Amos explored how we are to make sense of this complex relationship between religion and violence.  Click here to view the YouTube video.

About the speaker
Until her retirement in 2018, Canon Dr Clare Amos was head of the World Council of Churches office for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation.  Clare is a biblical scholar by background with a particular interest in the interface between interreligious concerns and biblical studies, stemming partly from the years she spent living in Jerusalem and then Beirut.
