yarmouth minster 750ATYarmouth church goes green for half term

Great Yarmouth Minster will be going green during half term week, with a week of activities and events investigating the science and faith behind renewable energy.

Through the week visitors will be finding out more about the area’s links to renewable energy, and how the technology works. Events include visits by the Bishop of Norwich, the Church of England’s lead bishop on the environment, as well as Climate Stewards, a live broadcast by Harbour Radio, a conscious coffee morning with vegan goodies, special activities for under-fives, and a big Green and Queen Quiz at the end of the week.

Thanks to funding from Scientists in Congregations, all the events will be free, and visitors will be able to explore the issues involved in climate change and renewable energy through both science and faith perspectives.

Rev Helen Lynch, assistant curate at the Minster, is looking forward to the week: “We’re hoping to welcome all sorts of visitors, to do some experimenting and creating, and breaking down some of the imagined barriers between science and faith. The renewables theme is particularly relevant here in Great Yarmouth, with so much expertise and industry in the town involved in off shore windfarms.”

Green Yarmouth runs from Sunday 29 May to Saturday 4 June, with the Minster open from 10am to 4pm every day.
