Sheringham church launches Family Fridays

A project to provide a meal and activities for local families has just been started by Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham. Tony Rothe reports.

Families with children are warmly welcome to come along to Lighthouse at 5pm on alternate Fridays for a free cooked meal with games, play equipment, and crafts also available. The sessions run until around 7pm.

Family Fridays is the brainchild of church partner Helen Ward who said “We felt we needed to do something to help families in the Sheringham area, especially at a time when rising inflation is going to put a strain on many family budgets”

Between 30 and 40 people have attended the first two evenings, with sausage and tomato pasta bake followed by ice cream dessert on offer the first week, and savoury mince, rice, and garlic bread followed by chocolate fudge cake on the second.

lighthouse maggie 200CFMaggie Rothe, Café Manager at Lighthouse, pictured right, who co-ordinates the evenings with Helen, said “The meals have proved very popular, with very little going to waste. It’s really rewarding to see so many local families coming along to have food and fun together”

Future Family Fridays will take place on May 20, June 10, June 24, July 8 and July 23, starting at 5pm each time. They are open to all families, but those wishing to come are asked to book in by the day before so that the organisers have an idea of numbers coming. You can also let them know of any dietary requirements when you book.
