Three Norfolk writers explore theme of belonging

Three Norfolk writers will be reading excerpts from their books on the theme of belonging at the Rockland St Mary church barn.

The event will take place on Saturday July 24 from 4-6 pm at what was previously the Burning Bush Barn.

Amanda Addison,  Sally-Anne Lomas and Sarah Passingham will be reading from their latest books, all listed for national awards.

In the Summer of 2019 the three friends, all writers with works in progress, came together to showcase their projects to their community. They met in what had been known as the Burning Bush Barn at Rockland St. Mary as part of Norfolk Creativity and Wellbeing Week and their theme was mental health.

Amanda Addison and Sarah Passingham’s books were published late 2019 and early 2020 and Sally Anne Lomas was due to publish her novel in summer 2020. They were looking forward to a year of readings and festivals.
Then came Covid.

But on Saturday July 24, Amanda, Sarah and Sally-Anne will return to the Rockland Church Barn with their published books in an event of celebration and gratitude for the support of their friendship and the community that nurtured them. This time, they decided, their theme would be ‘Belonging’. The three books could not be more different and yet each tackles the importance of what it means to belong, or how debilitating it can be to feel that the place where you should be, no longer quite fits, and what we can do to mitigate that.

Amanda Addison combines writing, making art and teaching. Inspired by the natural world, travel and textiles, listed for the Commonword, Fish Memoir, Dunwich Flash Fiction, Retreat West novella and Virginia Prize, she holds an MA in Writing the Visual. Her flash fiction short story, The English Way, was overall pan-European runner up in EACWP flash fiction 2019 and her debut novel, Laura’s Handmade Life (Hachette) has been translated in German (Goldmann, Weltbild) and Italian (Newton Compton).
