NYFC takes youth worship service online
Since lockdown, Norwich Youth for Christ has been running many of its youth clubs online. This Friday (July 24), its popular youth worship service Encounter is online for the second time.
Director Nick Blanch said: “The first one was a total experiment. We wondered if we could create a culture where young people could gather with their youth group to engage with Encounter in a purely online space.”
The results were positive on NYFC’s YouTube channel with strong participation in the chat and comments including ‘enjoyed it’, ‘Lovely talk!’ Great suggestion about the Prayer Wall!’.
Feedback form youthworkers was also encouraging. Sam Collinson from ONE Church said: “If you’re looking for an opportunity for your young people to engage with God and an online community, then Encounter is a great way for them to relax, join in some laughs and get some spiritual fuel for their walk with God.”
Including games, challenges, worship songs, and a talk, the event goes live at 7.30pm on Friday July 24, but groups are encouraged to discuss the issues raised together after the Encounter event.
“As it’s an online service, we decided to keep it short at 30 minutes but it gives a huge opportunity for youth leaders to organise their own group and chat together in more depth,” said Nick. “We also prepare discussion questions that people can use if they want.”
The Encounter Online includes guest speaker Laura Hancock (pictured above), who is the National Church Resources Director for Youth For Christ. She oversees the production of their evangelistic and discipleship online resources for 11-18 year olds. Laura is married to Andy who is Youth Pastor at Lifecentral Church, Halesowen.
