Gorleston church to host community summer fete
A church in Gorleston is inviting their community to join them on Saturday for a community fete and fun day for all ages.
Following the success of their Christmas community event, "Christmas on the Mag”, St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston is hosting Summer on the Mag on Magdalen Square on Saturday June 15 from 1pm to 5pm.
The minister of the church, Rev Matthew Price explains, “We were delighted with the community response to our Christmas event and the ethos behind "Summer on the Mag" is the same. We want it to be an event that brings our community together, where locals from all ages and stages of life can have fun together.”
At Summer on the Mag there will be inflatables, donkey rides, refreshments – including an ice cream van and barbecue – and lots of community stalls to browse and enjoy. In addition, there will be the opportunity to have a look round a fire engine and get locked into a police van! Summer on the Mag will also incorporate the Magdalen Way Methodist Church Summer Fete, offering bric-a-brac and other stalls.
The organising team are also bringing together a line-up of local performers, including the choirs of both Ormiston Herman Academy and Peterhouse Church of England Primary Academy, to entertain the crowds on a stage provided by Harbour Radio.
Rev Price added, “We want Summer on the Mag to be an event that celebrates all that is great about our local community and provides a fun and low-cost afternoon for everybody. We’d particularly like to thank Great Yarmouth Borough Council for giving us permission to use Magdalen Square and Norfolk County Council for granting permission for part of the road around the square to be closed for the event.”
Magdalen Square in Gorleston is at NR31 7BZ. Admission to the event is free.
