Out of Egypt to play at Broadland worship meeting

Out of Egypt, a new Christian Gospel Band, is to play at the next meeting of the Norfolk Broads Filling Station which will take place on Monday February 11 at its regular venue, Hickling Barn.

The members of Out of Egypt came together to play at “All About Gospel”, an event that took place last year hosted by Stalham Baptist Church. After the concert all the members of the band decided to continue together with the aim of raising funds for the church and other Christian charities and churches.
The band plays a broad range of Christian songs in a contemporary style. Their repertoire includes early spirituals and old time Gospel numbers, some that people might consider pop songs and one or two that were written by a band member. In concert, they often introduce their songs with a Bible reading that explains the origin or message in the song.
Diana Gordon, a deacon at Stalham Baptist Church, organised the first event and sings in the band. Explaining how they decided on their name she said. “Whilst as Christians we have been taken out of our old life by the finished work of Jesus, we frequently persist in remaining in our old life, just like the Israelites when they were led out of Egypt.”
She went on to explain that the band encourages those who book them to find people from their organisation to offer testimonies about how Christ impacts on their life today.
The Filling Station is an interdenominational movement whose meetings are designed to be overtly spiritual but presented in a manner that those outside the church would feel comfortable with. Meetings are held monthly and aim to be short, sharp and focused in character.
David Osborne, coordinator of the Norfolk Broads Filling Stations says, “This is an experiment for us. Over our three years we have had several powerful speakers at our meetings. However, our steering group decided to try a new way of presenting the Christian message, so thought we would have an evening that gave more prominence to song. Out of Egypt came strongly recommended to us after one of our number had seen them at Stalham. We are looking forward to a night when, more than ever, people will feel able to invite those outside the mainstream church to attend.”
Doors open at Hickling Barn at 7:00pm, when light refreshments are available. The meeting starts at 7:30pm. There is no charge to attend a Filling Station meeting, but donations may be left in a collection plate when leaving.
Hickling Barn is at: Tate Loke (Off Mallard Way), Hickling, NR12 0YU
