NCBC are creating a church for the future

NCBCFrontNIghtIt's been a busy few months for Norwich Central Baptist Church - the past 18 months have been occupied with planning and building and yet more planning and building.

Asbestos was found and removed, and hundreds of cardboard boxes were filled and dispatched into storage. NCBC's buildings have been renovated and it was a bit like moving house.

However, along with the exertions came a real sense of expectation about God's work at NCBC. The congregation of Norwich Central Baptist Church have discovered that what makes a house a home is similar to what makes a church a living church. They know that it's people rather than the building which makes a loving environment for the church family to worship and reach out together.

The church is marking the completion of the renovations with a week of thanksgiving and celebration from October 7th - 15th with the theme of Making Jesus Known.

"We want our launch to reflect our church vision of proclaiming the Good News and being a community that is thoroughly grounded in Scripture," explained church minister Rev James East. "NCBC's primary aim is to preach the Gospel, be spirit-led and, ultimately, make Jesus known."

Many activities will take place during the week including a 24-hour prayer and worship room, youth event, schools visits, art exhibition and a quiz night. They will be reading the entire Bible non-stop from Genesis to Revelation, thereby "washing" the new building in the Word. They don't want to do it on their own... NCBC invites Network Norwich readers to come and read a section of the Bible. "You can choose from an afternoon dip into Genesis through to a sunrise rendition of Habakkuk if you wish!" said James.

The renovated building consists of a large sanctuary for Sunday worship, a large hall and eight other rooms of various sizes as well as a splendid new glass-fronted entrance and foyer area with a coffee bar.

The congregation of NCBC are excited about the future. With the arrival of a new pastor, Rev Mark Tall, to work alongside James, youth worker Paul Farmer and two new pastoral workers, the church is ready for an exciting future. With the scaffolding dismantled and the boxes unpacked, the work has only just begun.
