Support welcome at Norfolk Christian Football League finals

The finals of the youth teams in the Norfolk Christian Football League will be held over the weekend of 12 – 13 May, where teams in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 leagues will play their final fixtures of the season.

Chairman Jim Green said there is much to be thankful for this season, including for all the managers, secretaries, kit washers, players and their players families, supporters and others who make the league happen week by week.

The vision of the league is to connect the church to the community through football. Jim said, “Recently a player new to the Christian League was explaining to me that he was glad that friends had persuaded him to overcome his reticence to join a team in the league: he appreciated the ethos generated by the team leadership and the fact that prayer before the game made clear that we were about something else as well as the football.”

There is a range of abilities across the league in all age ranges, but this season there were very few totally one-sided games. Secretary Alan Barnes observed that the teams at the top felt they had been in a competitive match even with those who had not picked up points.  He said, “Despite this competitive aspect, matches were played in a good spirit and there were very few issues to resolve between teams.  Saturday mornings has become a time to enjoy football, fellowship and linking it in with church and community.”
