How Hill son-rise 600CF

Annual Easter Son-Rise service in Broadland setting

2018: Everyone is warmly welcome to How Hill near Ludham at dawn on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

The Son-rise celebration is organised jointly by Stalham churches, but non-church-goers will be equally welcome. People should use the official car park, and gather on the grassy area nearby.

The service has been held for over 30 years, and over that time the hardy flock have been treated to ice, snow, balmy spring mornings, marsh mist, magical sun rises and, last year, a cutting wind sweeping up off the wetlands and river below, testing the musicianship of the frozen-fingered guitar players, before a rising watery sun provided a little warmth.

“The service starts at 6.30am” explained Baptist pastor Ron Skivington, “which is only one minute before the sun is due to rise, so we are hoping a glorious sunrise will accompany our celebration.  Most years we are joined in our praise by a variety of bird song.”

After the service, a cooked breakfast will be available at The Stables at Stalham Baptist Church. This is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. Anyone wishing to come to breakfast should book their place by e-mailing:  minister@stalhambaptist.org.uk  or phoning: 01692 582731.

Two days earlier, on Good Friday, March 30, there will be a Joint service at 2pm at St Mary’s parish church in Stalham, followed by a Reflective Service at 7pm at Stalham Baptist Church.

Later on Easter Sunday morning, at 10.45am, there will be a baptism service at Stalham Baptist Church.
