Worship with snow for Cawston Church

2018: Cawston’s morning worship last Sunday took the form of a snow-clearing session at the local primary school to ensure they would be able to open the following day.

As hazardous conditions continued in many Norfolk villages this weekend, many church services were cancelled to ensure the safety of worshippers. In Cawston, though, parishioners came together at the local school to help ensure it could open its doors again on Monday.

Around 30 dedicated churchgoers, including some children from the school, joined together with their shovels and brushes to move snow from the car park, paths and playground. At the same time, a band of dedicated villagers set about the task of clearing deep drifts of snow from the school crossing.

Cawston snow school 640ATTeam Vicar, Rev’d Andrew Whitehead, said, ‘Christians are called to live out their faith through actions, and this was a great way for our church family to come together and do something useful.’

He added ‘the school has been closed for 3 days this week, and we knew how important it would be for them to get back in action on Monday.’

The morning’s activity concluded with tea and coffee in the playground followed by a short act of worship amidst the piles of snow.

Services take place each week in Cawston at 10:30am. During the winter these are in Cawston Primary Academy.
