Norwich chorister is awarded silver Bishop's medal

A Norwich church chorister has followed in a family tradition after being presented with a prestigious silver Bishop’s medal.

Christ Church Eaton Head Chorister Elly Ross was presented with her Silver (Bishop's) medal by the Bishop of Lynn, at the annual Royal School of Church Music Festival Service in Norwich Anglican Cathedral on Sunday June 19.

Elly passed her Silver or Bishop's Award/Exam with distinction. The exam covers hymn, psalm and anthem singing, plus aural and sight singing and knowledge of biblical passages and the church year.

Her sister Anna, a previous Head Chorister and successful Bishop's candidate herself, has just completed her degree and is back in Norwich for the summer.

Other successful RSCM candidates came from the Barnham Broom Youth Choir, St Peter Mancroft and St Peter's Sheringham. Some were awarded the lesser, but equally prestigious, Dean's or Bronze medal, presented by the Dean of Norwich.
