Norwich's cathedrals embrace the world

RCCathedralWebNorwich’s two cathedrals are embracing the world and each other in a joint flower festival which they hope will attract over 20,000 visitors.

Embrace the World - A Festival of Flowers, takes place at Norwich’s Roman Catholic and Anglican cathedrals from June 2-5 and they will be linked by a floral trail through the city.

“The Festival was born out of the desire of our two Cathedrals to work together to the glory of God and in the service of the wider community,” said the Very Rev Graham Smith, Dean of Norwich Cathedral.

“The Flower Festival continues to highlight the existing unity between our two churches - a celebration which began this year with the installation of Bishop Michael as an Ecumenical Canon of Norwich Cathedral. This joint festival has brought together the skill and imagination of volunteers from both Cathedrals who have given freely of their time and energy to make this a memorable event.”

The designs in the Anglican Cathedral will focus on famous people of the world, in traditional style, whilst those at the Roman Catholic Cathedral will portray the countries of the world in modern flower arrangements.

The festival is expected to attract over 20,000 people, not only from this country but also from overseas.

The festival aims to show all faiths the many benefits of working with each other towards a common goal, it will be a celebration of flowers and their importance in rural heritage, say organisers.

It will also demonstrate the skills and dedication of all our volunteers who do so much to make the Cathedrals look beautiful throughout the year.

The event will also feature "The Floral Walk", a designated walk between the two Cathedrals through the historic city. This will take in Tombland, Queen Street, London Street, St Giles, Upper St Giles and the walkway bridge over Grapes Hill.

All profits from the festival will be shared between the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Cathedral Campaign and The Narthex at St John's Cathedral.
