East Norfolk schools in Living Advent Calendar

A group of schools in the Great Yarmouth area have worked with East Coast Religious Education (ECRE) to produce a Living Advent Calendar.

The calendar has been set up to help schools come together to celebrate the wonder of Christmas. It also gives schools the opportunity to showcase the great work going on in their classrooms. Each day a magical display from one of the partner schools will be revealed, and each day the next part of the story will be added.

The ECRE website says : “Did you know that just 12 percent of adults know the nativity story, and more than one-third of children don’t know whose birthday it is? Meanwhile, 51 per cent of people now say the birth of Jesus is irrelevant to their Christmas. Use the resources from 'Christmas Starts With Christ' to dig deeper in your classrooms and help reverse this trend.”

This year the following schools are taking part:

  • Woodlands Primary Academy
  • Hillside Primary School
  • Homefield CofE Primary School
  • Wroughton Junior School
  • Hopton CofE Primary School
  • Ormesby Village Infant School
  • Ormesby Village Junior School
  • Toftwood Infant School
  • Peterhouse CofE Primary Academy
  • Corton CofE Primary School
  • West Earlham Infant and Nursery School
  • North Denes Primary School
  • Bawdeswell Primary School

In addition, The Diocese of Norwich has produced a set of delightful resources to help schools dig deeper in to the Christmas story. There is an animated story that you can use in class and the online shop allows you to purchase various items, including an animated story CD, bookmarks and Christmas cards.
