Canaries fan sings hymn to 90,000 at Wembley
Norwich City fan and former newspaper sports writer David Cuffley sang the hymn Abide With me with 63 other football fans in front of 90,000 spectators before last weekend’s FA Cup Final at Wembley stadium.
David was chosen to represent Norwich City in the BBC Songs of Praise FA Cup Fans Choir along with supporters from all the teams who were in the third round of this year’s cup, won on Saturday by Arsenal who beat Aston Villa 4-0.
A Songs of Praise programme about the choir was hosted by Aled Jones and shown the following day on BBC1.
The choir was joined by tenor Alfie Boe.
David said: “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to go and sing on the pitch before the FA Cup Final in front of 90,000 people. It is the kind of experience you cannot buy. We even had a pep talk by England manager Roy Hodgson. It was all quite an experience.”
Abide with Me has become a constant fixture since it was first sung at the FA Cup Final in 1927.
You can see the episode on the BBC iPlayer until June 28
