Charity launches family support project

louise.moore.tracey.warnes2005: Norfolk and Norwich Families' House has launched a new project, One-to-One Family Support, thanks to a grant from The Parenting Fund.

The One-to-One Family Support project is part of the charity's Family Support Service, which also includes the well-established Norwich Family Friends befriending scheme and Parent Support Groups, which began earlier this year.

New Volunteer Co-ordinator, Louise Moore, an experienced psychotherapist and Rehabilitation/Health Education officer, leads the Family Support Service with a new member of staff, Family Support Worker, Tracey Warnes.

Louise said: "The Family Support Service is getting increasingly complex referrals where the whole family is experiencing a number of difficulties. Our Parenting Fund One-to-One project will give Tracey and I the opportunity to meet the family together and assess the situation. Tracey will then work with these families for at least three months to bring together a support package.

“The aim is for these families to eventually progress to one of our Parent Support Groups and/or receive help from one of our Norwich Family Friends volunteers."

The Parent Support Groups scheme, runs a 10-week programme, with a group starting in October. The aim of the programme is to help reduce feelings of isolation for parents by providing reassurance, support and friendship. Group sessions include information on parenting, communication and life skills.

Louise added: "We are also going to begin a drop-in monthly social group in October, for the parents from our first Parent Support Group, to keep the momentum going. The Parenting Fund help means that we have enough money to run Parent Support Groups and One-to-One Family Support until October 2006. But we will need to find alternative funds to maintain this vital work for Norwich families."

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
