Tributes paid to Christian youth worker
2007: Tributes have been paid to
Norfolk Christian youth worker
Paul Harrison who was killed when the motorbike he was riding was involved in a road accident on March 12, 2007.
When the accident happened, Paul, 33, was on his way to Cambridge where he spent two days a week studying for a degree in theology and youth work. His long-term plan was to become a pastor.
He lived in Fakenham, attended the Baptist Church there and was actively involved in a pupil mentor scheme at Fakenham High School.
He was also a volunteer with the YMCA in Norwich and chief executive John Drake said he was stunned: “Paul was a valuable volunteer with us.”
YMCA Norfolk faith development officer Alexis Lloyd, with whom Paul worked, said: “Paul was a most excellent volunteer for the YMCA. He fitted in easily at the St Giles Hostel in Norwich, where he quickly made friends with residents and staff. Paul was willing to do whatever was asked of him, from putting up Christmas decorations to leading a discussion group. He supported some individuals on a one-to-one basis and was a great encouragement to me. Paul will be missed very much. His loss has affected many of our residents. Paul clearly knew Jesus very well – it shone out through his smile and open heart.”
In Fakenham, Paul also worked with the EP Youth Project (formerly Ekklesia Project), an independent ecumenical Christian charity.
Project manager Sarah Durke said: “Paul was passionate about his work with young people and was very excited about the big red bus that we had recently purchased and were refurbishing to use as a base for our work. We are determined to carry on and see it completed and in use. We firmly believe that God will bring good out of this tragedy.”
“Paul’s death leaves a big hole in many lives, but we are especially thinking of his wife Ellie and 5 year old son Zacci at this time.”
There will be a service of thanksgiving for Paul’s life on Wednesday March 28 at 2pm at Fakenham Baptist Church, to which everyone is welcome. Donations will go towards the Big Red Bus Project (cheques to EP Youth).
