Norwich Christian book collection one of best in UK

Revelation Christian resource centre has one of the best collections of second-hand Christian books in the whole country, with up to 5,000 on display at any one time, thanks to generous donations and the depth of knowledge of centre manager Steve Foyster. Keith Morris reports.

Despite a 32% fall in new book sales over the past 12 months, the Bible remains a best-seller at Revelation, Steve told the charity’s AGM on April 11, and sales of cards and CDs and DVDs have all increased.

But the biggest success has been in the sales of second-hand books which have increased by 74% over the past six years, thanks to generous donations from individuals and churches across Norfolk and the specialist knowledge of the Christian book market by Steve, who has been in the trade since 1997.

“We are trying to increase the second-hand book section,” said Steve, “and we currently have over 5,000 books on display with another 3,000 waiting to be sorted out. One customer from another part of the country told me that he believes we have one of the best collections in the whole of the UK.”

Steve also spoke passionately about the sense of community that the centre has created, especially around some of the topical events that are staged.

“It is some of the events which make this place extra-special,” said Steve. “It is all about people meeting up for face-to-face communication to hear about some very important subjects that often take things to the edge.”

Subjects covered in the past year include mental health, depression and forgiveness, with first-hand accounts from several authors.

“I have always been passionate about this place because of the continuing community which it offers to people,” said Steve.

Donations of second-hand Christian books are always welcome either direct to the centre or collections can be arranged. Contact Steve on  01603 619731 or at norwichcrc@btconnect.com
