Church in action celebrated at Royal Norfolk Show

2017: There was a significant Christian presence at the Royal Norfolk Show from 28 - 29 June with the Diocese of Norwich, a Christian organisations exhibition, the Good News stand and show chaplains.

The Diocese of Norwich organised a very large marquee highlighting the work of the Anglican church and also providing space for exhibitors from other Christians groups and organisations.

Despite heavy rain on the first day, the marquee (which won another show award for its design) was buzzing with activities for people of all ages.  There was a mini climbing wall, craft activities, mobile recording studio, sandcastle building and an area where toddlers could play.  Alongside these was a large café and tea garden serving tea and coffee (and free fruit for children!) for all those wanting refreshment or a place to stop and relax. Throughout both days school music groups and choirs performed on the stage area.

RNSMarquee17x600The theme was ‘Celebrating the church in action’, and exhibitors within the marquee include YMCA Norfolk, Norwich Cathedral, Mothers’ Union, Scripture Union, Christian Aid, Foodbank, Norwich Youth for Christ, Norfolk Street Partnership, Traidcraft, Network Norfolk and more.

There was also information about Norfolkfeeds5000, a campaign highlighting the vital role of Christian organisations who provide food for people in the county.

Earlier this year the Diocese launched a competition to put the county’s creative photography skills to the test. The twelve shortlisted photos will make their opening debut at the Norfolk show and visitors will be able to vote for their favourite photo before they photos go on tour of the county.

Gordon Darley, Marketing & Communications Manager for the Diocese of Norwich, said: “The Show is an amazing opportunity to highlight what local churches are doing across Norfolk and Waveney.  We wanted to engage with people to highlight the vibrancy of church in their community.”
