Lynn's Debt Centre hampers tackle holiday poverty

Summer hampers packed with food cupboard staples and summer holiday essentials have been donated and delivered to Lynn families struggling with debt, as part of King’s Lynn CAP Debt Centre’s effort to help tackle food poverty over the school summer holidays.

The King’s Lynn CAP Debt Centre is a partnership between Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and Churches Together in King’s Lynn to provide help to anyone who feels weighed down by debt.

This summer to help tackle food poverty over the summer holidays a team of volunteers helped Project Manager Emily Hart deliver summer hampers to families receiving debt support from the Centre.

Emily Hart said: “One of CAP's cultural values is generosity, so as a summer project we were encouraged as a centre to provide summer hampers to our families to help tackle food poverty over the school summer holidays. I had an awesome team of volunteers who turned up to help pack and deliver the hampers. All the families were blessed with food cupboard staples, summer treats, kids snacks, sun cream, bubbles, outdoor game and a disposable BBQ.”

In just the past couple of months, four clients of the King’s Lynn CAP Debt Centre have gone debt-free, bringing the project’s total to 17 clients who are now debt-free.

Emily is always looking for ways to further support the Centre's clients and at the end of June hosted a Hog Roast and Magic Tricks evening, which included a Gospel message. Emily said: “Six people responded immediately to the gospel. There were some great conversations as well.”

Emily has also recently become an advocate for the Christian crowd-funding charity Acts 435. She said: “As an advocate, I can post the needs of the clients in the King's Lynn area. Currently, we are using the Acts 435 website to help meet families needs for school uniform. We are hoping that five families will receive funding for school uniforms through this."
