Appeal to join in Norfolk churches bike ride and walk

Organisers of the Norfolk Churches Trust Annual Bike Ride and Walk are appealing for churches to join in with the event by opening their doors to visitors and individuals to take part and raise money for their own church.

In previous years a number of churches of different denominations have taken part in the event which last year raised £97,817. The money is split it between each participant’s chosen church and the Norfolk Churches Trust which looks after a number of historic local churches.

It is taking place on Saturday September 8 and is a major fundraising event for the Norfolk Churches Trust which also gives grants to church buildings of all denominations.

Bike Ride Committee Chairman, Charles Inglis, said: “It is a fun day out, stopping off and exploring as many churches and chapels as you can. Traditionally it has been done by bicycling or walking but you can use any method of transport of your choosing.”

You can find out more details at www.norfolkchurchestrust.org.uk or from Charles at charles.inglis@holefarm.co.uk

“We have previously distributed the paperwork for the event via local area organisers but this system was getting very difficult to maintain so we have decided to post out the packs directly this year,” said Charles. As this is the first year of using this method if you have not received the paperwork please do send us your address. The paperwork can also be found on our website

“We would love people to send in pictures on the day. Brown and Co, who are sponsoring the event, will choose a couple of photographs and give a £50 prize to the ones they like most and send them to the EDP to be published. Even if you don’t win we want lots of pictures to put on the facebook page and website

Each year, organisers honour those who have visited the most churches on its website Wall of Fame. Last year Catholic octogenarian tandem cyclists, Michael and Paula Hughes, from Taverham, visited 42 different Norwich churches in just six hours to raise almost £400 for Our Lady and St Walstans church in Costessey, as well as cash for the Norfolk Churches Trust.
