Trumpet Call 2018
Norfolk represented at national Trumpet Call prayer day

East Anglia was represented at the recent ‘Trumpet Call 2018’ prayer conference, as a group from Norfolk joined with over 1,500 prayerful Christians from across the UK.

Report by Nigel Fox

Two dozen or so friends from across Norfolk and the House of Prayer in Norwich attended this year's event at the International Conference Centre, Birmingham, on June 9, entitled “It’s Time to Turn”, in anticipation of a great day. It was an inspiring experience from the outset, joining with over 1,500 prayerful Christians, seeking the presence of God in united worship and prayer. Worship began with a trumpet call, and a procession of banners – bearing the logo “Our Lamb has conquered, Let us follow Him”. The East Anglia banner was carried by our own Jill Gower (Director of Call to Prayer).

The day was led by Ian Cole and others from the ‘World Prayer Centre’, with various contributions and two guest speakers.

R T Kendall offered a clear and heart-felt reminder that the gospel of Jesus is of life-giving importance and that its essential purpose is to bring salvation to the lost. There was some passionate praying, led by Yinka Oyekan (The Gate, Reading), and several others. After lunch, we were stirred by the preaching of Malcolm Duncan (Dundonald Elim, NI) who, drawing upon Jeremiah’s experience of a nation in trouble, ably told it as it is… and almost everyone was clearly moved… In fact, the truth of his message impacted us deeply.

The opportunities to respond were marked with a real depth of devotion, and often with weeping and groaning for the Church and the nation, as we became aware of our failures before the merciful presence of God. “It’s Time to Turn” also reinforced our need to press in prayerfully, dissatisfied with anything less than the fullness, as we worship and serve the Living God. The spiritual temperature and the urgency of praying is certainly on the rise across the UK.

It really was an amazing day – shaking us out of sleepy complacency, and even stirring into greater urgency for seeking God more and more, as we stand up for our churches, and for the hurting communities of our cities and towns.
