Norfolk missionaries in Cambodia appeal for teachers

Interserve missionaries Alex and Ellie Hawke, from Norfolk, have made an appeal for Christian teachers to consider the exciting opportunity of moving to Cambodia, to work for a small international school serving missionary families.

Alex and Ellie Hawke along with their two sons, Isaac and Joshua, are long-term missionaries serving with Interserve in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The couple are appealling for Norfolk Christian teachers to consider opportunities at HOPE International School where Isaac and Joshua attend.  The small school, which serves mission families, is in need of excellent teachers who are committed Christians to serve for a minimum of two years.

Alex and Ellie met at the University of East Anglia and have been part of Gateway Vineyard Church, Norwich since it began in 2005. Ellie grew up in Norfolk where her father, Rev Jess Stubenbord, was Vicar of Mulbarton Church for 20 years.

The family moved to Cambodia in 2014 with a heart to serve those affected by sexual exploitation. Alex is the Country Team Leader for Interserve Cambodia, a team of 45 mission workers.

He said: “Ellie and I recently set up a transitional housing and mentoring program to support young women who have been sexually exploited and trafficked. We also work with an NGO who have a home for sexually exploited girls where we teach life skills. I also teach the Bible and engage in evangelism.”

Isaac and Joshua have been attending HOPE International School since the family moved to Siem Reap. The school was set up in 2002 to support world mission by providing quality, Christ-centered education for children of international Christian workers in Cambodia.

The school is currently recruiting qualified teachers for their primary, middle and secondary schools. Teachers are provided with a living allowance to cover the costs of housing, utilities and day-to-day expenses.

If you are interested in serving at HOPE International School, or know someone who might be, take a look at the current vacancies listed here.  Alex and Ellie would be happy to answer questions about their experience of the school and what it is like to live in Cambodia.
