Gorleston Methodists celebrate 150 years
Lowestoft Road Methodist Church - once known as Gorleston Methodist - celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and will mark the occasion with a special service on Sunday May 21.
The celebration will see the Rev John Fenn, a former minister of the church, returning to lead the service, as well as a performance from the Dusmagrik theatre group http://www.dusmagrik.com/
The service will follow a weekend of celebration for the church, with an anniversary coffee morning and gift day taking place between 10.30am and 12pm on Saturday, May 20, as well as opportunities for visitors to look around the church.
Originally one building, the church expanded to two in 1899 with a new building next door to the old. This new building became the main church, with the original building taking on the role of schoolroom. Both still stand, with the schoolroom now used by various community groups.
The church building has wheelchair access, with an accessible toilet, and hearing loop.
The address is: Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, Gt Yarmouth, NR31 6SG.
