Long-serving senior pastors
Trevor and
Joyce Pimlott will be handing over responsibilities to
Jon and
Chantel Norman on July 6.
Trevor said: “We are excited and expectant about the great things that God is going to do in our city through this new venture. We believe that as we enter a new era and continue to move forward we need to pass on the baton to the next generation.”
Jon is originally from
Norwich and ran the hugely successful
Wildlife youth club at the former
Mount Zion church (now NFLC) at
Heartsease before moving to
Hillsong Leadership College in
Sydney, Australia in 2002. There he met Chantel, who was born in
Los Angeles, California and they married in 2006.
The couple served on the pastoral leadership team at
Hillsong Cape Town in
South Africa for six years, Jon as the associate pastor and Chantel as the worship director. They have a two-year old daughter,
Miracle-Joy, born in Cape Town.
As a family they felt the strong call of God at the beginning of 2014 to pioneer a church in Norwich and were released and supported by Hillsong Church to that endeavour.
Jon said: “Over the past few months we have been travelling and seeking God as to where he would have us build a church. After much prayer and consideration we are pleased to announce we have been appointed as Senior Pastors of
Norwich Family Life Church (NFLC) and are launching a brand new church on July 6 under the name
'SOUL church'.
“As a family we are bursting with vision and expectation for everything God has in store for Norwich and beyond.
“We believe this is an amazing God-given opportunity to be handed such a significant church with such a rich heritage, resources, but most of all such an incredible group of people to take us into the future. We look forward to working alongside the many other great churches in Norwich and we truly believe that together we can see our city turn to Jesus.
“We want to honour pastors Trevor and Joyce and the
Pimlott family for the remarkable church they have built over the past 50 years. We assure everyone who has been a part of NFLC that we will always esteem in the highest regard the heritage which has been laid. We now have the amazing privilege of standing on their shoulders as we continue to build on their legacy.
“On Sunday July 6 we will be having a special night to honour Trevor and Joyce and the Pimlott family and to celebrate 50 years of God's faithfulness to the Church.”
Weekly gatherings will begin on May 27, 7pm at
Starbucks, St Stephens in Norwich city centre.
“These evenings will be a great opportunity for us to connect, build community and to share our heart around the vision of SOUL Church with one another,” said Jon.
SOUL Church will be officially launching on Sunday July 13 at 11am and 5pm, Mason Road, Norwich.
